Chad leaves Indy with Two runner-up Finishes

June 31,2007

Bloomington Friday 6-29

Chad prepared for this week’s races with extra determination, as this was the last weekend of a 6-week Indiana swing for the 15 year-old from Phoenix.  Point standings were not really a concern for the young driver, but he entered the event at Bloomington Speedway as the point leader.

Chad

Chad started fifth in the heat race and quickly drove to the front of the field, winning by more than a straight-a-way.  A number two draw would line up Chad on the outside of the front row for the feature event.

At the drop of the green Chad jumped out to the lead and pulled away to a 10 car length lead, running at the top of the track in dominating fashion.  After leading the first 15 laps 16 time race winner  Jon  Stanbourgh was slowly reeling Chad in on the bottom, and he made it stick on lap 18.  Chad drove a great race, finishing in second, and increasing his point lead at Bloomington.  “I had a great car tonight, and for awhile I thought I was going to be able to hold Jon off.  We keep getting a little better each week, we just need a little more.”

Lawrenceburg Saturday 6-30

A seventh place starting position in the heat race did not look good for Chad, but he drove  hard and finished in the second position, starting him 8th for the main.

The track was difficult this week, as it was dry in turns 1&2 and rough in 3&4.  Chad made the high groove work, and slowly moved through the field.  Car control and finesse were the name of the game this week, and Chad put the right rear tire of his RoomStore Maxim right at the edge of the track lap after lap. He again finished in the second, position, again behind Jon Stanbrough.

Kokomo Sunday, July 1

After qualifying in the 9th position, Chad transferred through the heat race by finishing third and lined up 9th in the feature.

Chad looked good at the start and quickly moved to sixth around the bottom, but the grip on the car faded at the end and Chad finished in the 8th position, another top 10 run.

In 19 races over the 6 weeks, Chad had three runner-up finishes, seven finishes in the top 4, and 13 finishes in the top 10 with four DNF’s (two while leading), an amazing record considering the depth of the competition.

“I had a great time racing all the Indiana tracks and getting to know al the competitors.  I am not going to know what to do without racing three night a weeks, but I can’t wait to come back”

Since Chad’s age prevents him from racing with USAC and  the SprintWeek series (minimum age is 16)  the team will be taking a few weeks off in July to prepare for the TNT Sprint Bandit series in August, which will consist  of 11 races in 16 days
