Mechanical DNF derails Chad's bid for victory at Kokomo
June 15,2007
Sunday, June 17th
After a great 2nd place run the week before, Chad was ready to get back to Kokomo Speedway for the "King of Indiana" event. Chad started on the outside of the front row for his heat, and looked strong as he drove to the heat win. The top eight drew for starting positions in the main, and Chad would line up 5th.
Chad quickly moved to second in the openig laps behind race leader Jon Stanbourgh and was matching the leaders pace when they encountered traffic on lap 10. Stanbrough gpt caught up with a lapped machine and flipped, giving Chad the lead after the red flag. Chad drove the heavy cushion like a vetern, pulling away from the field for the next five laps. But it was not to be, as the RoomStore/Maxim failed to take off after a yellow flag on lap 16 and Chad pulled to the infield with an engine problem.
"I felt like we had the car to win tonight, but we'll have to wait until next week. I get more comfortable with the tracks each week. I think if we can just keep on racing in the top 5 we can get a win".
June 15th Bloomington
Chad came into this weeks race at the Bloomington Speedway second in the point standings, an excellent showing for the 15 year old from Phoenix. A good pill draw had Chad starting on the front row for the heat race, which he easily won. Pill draw would determine the feature line up, and a #1 pill would mean Chad would start on the pole.
The track was slick and the groove was right around the bottom. Chad led the field down into turn one but slide up off the bottom just enough to allow Matt Neely to slip by. Chad drove a smooth race and finished in the fourth position after racing with Jon Stanbourgh and Jeff Bland.
June 16 Lawrenceburg
The Lawrenceburg Speedway was in top shape this Saturday with a sticky surface and a heavy cushion. Chad found out just how big the cushion can be in his heat, as he pulled out to a big lead from his front row starting spot only to have the car bicycle with two laps to go. Chad did a great job of saving it, but ran off the track on the back straight. He came back on, still in the second position, and would finish in 2nd. He would line up 8th for the main.
At the drop of the green flag Chad quickly moved to the top of the track and carved through the field. By lap 10 he had moved to second and had his sights set on leader Brandon Petty. He was closing fast with five to go when the car bicycled on the cushion again, sending Chad off the track. He recovered but ran out of laps and finished inthe fourth position.
