Chad Drives the Third Place Finish In Sheldon Kinser Memorial at Bloomington
June 1,2007
Bloomington Friday June 1
Fifty-two cars rolled through the gates at Bloomington Friday night for the annual Sheldon Kinser Memorial. Chad went out late to qualify and turned the 4th quick time for the night out of the 52 cars, starting him 6th in his heat race.
The Bloomington Speedway was fast and passing was difficult, as many on the top qualifiers in the first three heats failed to transfer to the A main through the heat. Chad raced hard at the drop of the green and was able to gain the transfer spot by lap seven. He finished third, good for the direct transfer to the A main.
Chad started the A main from the outside of the second row and quickly moved to second position at the drop of the green flag. He challenged leader AJ Anderson on the outside on lap three and made he pass stick, moving to the lead on lap four. Chad look strong, as he pulled away from the field as Jon Stanbourgh challenged Anderson for second. Chad led the next 12 laps before a red flag stopped the action. When racing resumed Stanbourgh was hot on Chad’s tail, and challenged for the lead on lap 18. They raced side-by-side for two laps before Stanbourgh moved to the lead. Chad’s Roomstore Maxim started to get a little loose in the high groove, and Brady Short moved by for second as Chad battled on the top. In the closing laps of the 40 lapper Chad battled with Darrin Clayton before taking the third position at the checker flag.
“I feel good about our run tonight. We are getting better every week and are running at the front and leading laps. It doesn’t get any tougher than racing against Jon Stanborough, (he has won 11 races so far this year) so if we can outrun him you know you have beat the best in the nation.”
Brownstown Speedway, June 2nd
After rain fell at the Lawrenceburg Speedway at about 4:00 Saturday, Chad and the crew made a quick 1 ½ drive over to Brownstown Speedway. Arriving the little late, the crew made quick preparations and had Chad ready for the heat race.
Chad started 6th and had moved to the second position by lap 5, but a battle with Jesse Hockett on the top and Jon Sisco on the bottom moved him 4th and the finish. He would have to run the B main, which he easily won from the pole position.
Even though Chad won the B-main he would have to start deep in the field, and the dry track condition would make passing difficult. “I knew everyone would be running around the bottom, so we set the car up to try and run the top. The top was not very good, but you can’t pass a train on the same tracks, so we decided to try and make the top work.”
It appeared to work well at first, as Chad moved from his 16th starting position to 8th in the first 12 laps. A mechanical problem derailed Chad’s drive, as the #30 began to sputter with a faulty ignition switch. Chad dropped back but managed to salvage a 16th place finish.
