Chad was ready to do some open-wheeled racing, after having a successful weekend in the ASA SpeedTruck, with a 4th place finish last weekend in California. He started his heat race on the outside of the front row for the 8-lap race and jumped out to the lead on Lap 1 and never looked back,
leading all 8 laps. Chad almost got a new eight-lap record in winning the heat race. His time of 2:01.19 was almost enough to take the record from Jeremy Sherman who stopped the clock at 2:01.09 on October 13, 2001.
The 20-lap Main Event was lined up with Chad on the outside of Row 1. After two restarts because of cars spinning out and one red flag for a car that flipped in Turn 2, Chris Rahe, who usually runs with the West Coast Midgets, and R. J. Johnson, who had a night off from his USAC/SCRA sprint car ride, took the first and second positions, with Chad running third at the end of Lap 1. After several more yellow flags, Chad was able to close in on the leaders, and he stayed with them but was not able to run them down and pass them before the checkered flag flew.
Chad’s next race will be July 15th at Madera Speedway near Fresno, CA in the ASA SpeedTruck.
