Manzanita Speedway

July 22, 2006

After another great race in the ASA SpeedTruck, finishing 2nd in the 100-lap Main Event at Madera Speedway on July 15th, Chad climbed into the seat of the 360 ASCA Sprint Car, ready to see action on a very hot and humid night on Manzanita’s 1/3 mile oval.

Chad

Chad started his heat race on the outside of the second row, and got a good start and was running 2nd going into Turn 1 as the green flag waved. The lead car pushed high in Turn 2 and caused a multiple car wreck, with only three of the nine starters making it through the crash. Most of the cars were able to restart, and on the restart, since Chad was one of the cars not involved in the crash, he started on the outside of the front row. He took the lead and led the first 4 laps, before he was passed by Bob Ream, Jr. Chad finished a strong second and earned a transfer spot into the Main Event.

The 25-lap Main Event had Chad starting on the inside of the second row of the 23-car field. As the cars took the green flag, Chad was running fourth. It didn’t take long before the yellow flag waved allowing the field to close in. Chad lost one position after the restart, but was running in the 5th position when another yellow came out on Lap 11. Chad was being pressured by the points leader and nine time winner this year, Jeremy Sherman. Chad was able to hold Sherman off for several laps, but after another yellow flag, Sherman was able to get by Chad on the restart.

Chad was running in the sixth position with 11 laps remaining, and was able to move to fifth and was staying with the leaders and trying to take his position back from Sherman as the checkered flag waved. Even though Chad is running a limited schedule with the ASCA Sprint Cars, this was his second top five finish this year.

Chad’s next race will be July 29th at Irwindale Speedway in the ASA SpeedTruck.
