Chad Boat wins in AMRA Midgets

August 28, 2006

With 91 cars signing into the pits to celebrate Manzanita Speedway’s 55th Anniversary show, Chad was entered in two divisions, the AMRA Midgets and the ASCA 360 Sprint Cars. The first event of the night for Chad was determining starting spots for both divisions.

Since they did not run heat races, the starting spots for the main events were decided with the drivers selecting a Frisbee with a number on it from the front straight-of-way, and the number on the Frisbee was the starting position for the driver. Chad’sChad Frisbee for the midgets was #7 and for the sprint cars, it was #10.

Chad’s first race of the night was the 20-lap AMRA Midget main event. From his 7th starting position, Chad got an excellent start as the green flag waved, and was running in the 3rd position at the end of Lap 1. By Lap 5, Chad had moved into 2nd, but the yellow flag waved, closing up the field. On the restart, Chad passed veteran driver, Bugs Norbury, for the lead coming off of Turn 2, but the yellow flag flew again, moving Chad back into the 2nd position. On the next restart, Chad held on to second, with last week’s main event winner, Nathan High moving into third. Chad passed Norbury for the lead on Lap 11 with High moving in on Chad. Chad’s Bullet Midget was fast, and Chad never made a mistake, and had a comfortable lead, when the yellow flag slowed the field again with 5 laps to go. As the flagman waved the green flag for the restart, Chad jumped out to the lead again with High trying to make the pass on the bottom of the 1/3 mile oval. They raced into the corners side-by-side, with Chad running the top, and High on the bottom for the last 4 laps. Chad took the checkered flag, winning by three car lengths over High, for his first AMRA Midget Main Event victory of the year.

Chad was looking forward to running the 360 sprint car on Manzanita’s 1/2 mile oval. This was only Chad’s second race on the fast 1/2 mile. Starting in the 10th position for the 25-lap Main Event, Chad held his position but wasn’t able to move up until the yellow flag waved on Lap 14. On the restart, Chad passed several cars and he took the checkered flag in the 7th position.

Chad’s next race will be on September 2nd with the ASA SpeedTrucks. Chad will be running his first road course race in the SpeedTruck, in the St. John’s Grand Prix, in St. Johns, AZ.
