Chad Boat Races to 4th in AMRA Prescott Midgets
April 15, 2006
Chad started off the night by drawing the last pill in the bag, which started him at the back of the 2nd heat race. At the drop of the green Chad quickly moved to fourth, and then made an inside move on lap two, passing two cars to move into second. He finished the heat second behind Bugs Norbury.
Chad’s pill drawing luck continued for the main, as the top nine in the heats drew for position. Chad drew 8th, starting him outside the 4th row. The track was in great shape, and Chad know the race would be a fast, hard–charging affair.
As the green flag flew on the feature race, Chad made a great outside move in the first corner, passing three cars that had gotten tangled up and moving into third place down the back straight-a-way. Unfortunately the yellow flag came out, reverting the entire field back to the original green. On the second start he was not as lucky, but he quickly moved to 6th place after only a few laps. Danny Stratton, driving the Spike/Esslinger of Mike Burkhart, quickly jumped into the lead and was setting a torrid pace.
Chad quickly settled into a smooth rhythm, passing Steve Sussex for 5th and then moving into 4th when USAC Western States midget point leader Tyler Brown moved to the infield with engine problems. Chad then set his sights on Darrin Bolton. Chad made a couple of moves to the inside, but ran out of laps to make the pass.
“We had a good run, especially coming from 8th on a track this fast. My Bullet chassis was working great, I just needed a yellow flag at the end to close up the field”, Chad commented after the race.
Chad’s next race is April 28th at the Las Vegas Bullring with the ASA Speedtruck.
