Chad Debuts New Midget With 3rd Place
October 15, 2005
With a pit area full of 44 sprints cars and 24 midgets for the Buddy
Taylor Memorial, Chad came to the track with a brand new Mopar powered
Bullet Midget for its first race.
The first race was a Rookie trophy dash for the AMRA midgets. Chad
started inside the second row in the six-car field, and on the start
he made a move to second but fell back to third and was running in
the third position as the checkered flag waved.
Heat race action had Chad lined up outside of the 3rd row in Heat Race #3. After two restarts, Chad moved into the 4th position at the end of the first lap, and quickly moved in on the leaders and was running 3rd at the halfway point of the race. He passed for 2nd with three laps to go and was gaining on the leader, Bugs Norbury, but ran out of laps and finished 2nd in the first heat race for the new Bullet midget.
Chad started the Main Event in the 4th position, and on the start, he had moved to 2nd, but a yellow flag flew and moved him back to 3rd for the restart on the second lap. As the green flag flew for the restart, Steve Sussex was leading with Chris Edwards running 2nd, and Chad was in the 3rd position. The third restart, brought out another yellow as three more cars tangled. On the next restart, Chad made a move to the inside for the second position and was able to hold on to that position as another yellow flag flew. With only three laps completed, the green flag finally flew and Chad took the lead on Lap 5 and had a good lead over 2nd place, when he got into Turn 4 a little too hot and spun out, catching the berm and tipped the car over on its side. They were able to put the car back on its wheels, and pushed the car off to rejoin the race, but Chad had to start at the back of the 20-car field.
As the race restarted, Chad started making his way to the front, when two cars got together and one of them flipped on the front straight-of-way bringing out the red flag. This gave the crew a chance to look over Chad’s car to make there wasn’t any damage done when it tipped over. On the next restart, Chad steadily worked his way through traffic, and had moved into the sixth position with 8 laps to go. He continued moving to the front, and was catching the leaders, running in the 3rd position, as the checkered flag waved. A good come back for Chad, and a good finish for the first race for the new Bullet midget.
Chad’s next races will be Saturday, October 22nd at Manzanita Speedway with the Arizona Sprint Car Association and the AMSCA Mini-Sprints.
