Chad Ends Mini Sprint Season with 14 Main Event Wins & 2nd in Points
October 29, 2005
Chad came into Friday night’s mini sprint race second in the points championship, even though he had missed 4 races so that he could concentrate on trying to win the Rookie of the Year title with the AMRA midget association. He not only accomplished that goal, but the #30 midget also won the Owner’s Championship and Chad finished second in points, only 2 points out of the lead. He also missed one mini sprint race to run a sprint car with the Arizona Sprint Car Association, to get his 3 races that he had to tag out of the way, and get ready to participate in the Western World Championship for the 360 Sprint Cars at Manzanita on November 10th, 11th, and 12th.
Chad
had an engine problem on Friday night and didn’t transfer from
his heat to the main, but he ran the semi main, finishing 6th which
earned him a spot in the main event. He started in the 16th position
in the main and managed a 10th place finish.
Chad and the crew worked all day Saturday to get the engine repaired in time for Saturday night’s race. Heat race action had Chad lined up in the 4th position. The car in front of Chad didn’t get a good start, causing Chad to fall back to the 5th position at the end of the first lap. It didn’t take him long to catch the leaders, but the heat races were shortened to 6 laps and he finished 3rd behind Kiley Fellars and Dennis Parks.
Chad started the Main Event in the 12th position and got a great start and had already moved up several positions before the end of Lap 1. On Lap 3, three cars got together, with two cars getting upside down, bringing out the red flag. On the restart, Chad was already running in the third position, and it didn’t take him long to make the pass on Dennis Parks for the 2nd position. Kiley Fellars was leading and Chad stayed with him but wasn’t gaining much ground on him for the next few laps, when a yellow flag came on Lap 8, letting Chad close in on the rear bumper of Fellars. When the green flag waved, Fellars jumped out to a good lead and even though Chad stayed with him, and gained some ground when they started lapping the slower cars, Chad wasn’t able to run him down to make a try for the win. He had a great run finishing 2nd, in what will probably be his last mini sprint race except for the Tulsa Shoot Out in January. Chad will also be running the #30 Bullet Midget in the Chili Bowl in Tulsa the 2nd week in January. He will be dividing his time next year running with the Arizona Sprint Car Association at Manzanita, and the Speed Trucks in California.
