Prescott Valley Raceway

June 18, 2005

On a cool and crash-filled night at Prescott Valley Raceway, Chad Boat drove his Stealth/Gaerte Ford Midget to victory lane and became one of the youngest drivers in history ever to win a Midget race.

The night started with the heat race on a wet and slick one groove track. After starting in the sixth position, Chad worked his way to fifth but could go no farther as the track made passing almost impossible. Since main event lineup is based on heat race finish position, Chad knew he faced an uphill battle with his 10th starting position in the main.

Chad started on the outside of the 5th row for the main and it became apparent very quickly that staying out of trouble was going to be the way to the front. Chad avoided two separate crashes in the first two laps and worked the bottom of the track like a veteran, passing cars on the inside off the corners and was able to work his way to third when the yellow came out on lap four. When the leader pitted with mechanical problems under the yellow Chad found himself in second position at the drop of the green. Chad drove underneath race leader Mike Courtney down the back straight-away and took the lead in only his fifth start ever in a Midget.

Chad’s lead increased one to two car lengths per lap with smooth and consistent driving on the wet slick racetrack. Although the checkered flag flew early due to the 11:00 curfew at Prescott Valley Raceway, Chad was not to be denied and raced across the line claiming his fist career Midget victory.

In victory lane, Chad said “I just want to thank my team for giving me a great car tonight and thank my Grandpa for helping to get my engine back together after our problems last week. I just tried to stay out of the crashes and not make any mistakes.”
