Manzanita Speedway

August 6, 2005

After two weeks of getting rained-out, Chad was anxious to get back in a race car and see if he could continue his winning ways. Chad began his night of racing in the AMRA Midget trophy dash. He started on the outside of Row 2 for the 4-lap dash, but wasn’t able to get to the front, and finished in the 4th position.

When it came time for heat race action, Chad lined up on the outside of the third row. At the wave of the green flag, the cars weren’t lined up to the satisfaction of the flagman, and the start was waved off. The second start was also waved off, but when the green flag was finally waved, Chad had moved to the outside of the front row because the cars originally lined up in front of him had problems and were moved to the back of the field. He took advantage of the front row starting position, and took the lead on the first lap, but dropped back to 3rd. On Lap 6 of the 8-lap heat race, Chad made a great move to the inside of Mike Welker coming out of Turn 3, and held on to finish in the 2nd position.

Chad started the 15-lap Main Event on the pole, and took the lead and was pulling away from the rest of the field when the yellow flag waved on Lap 7. On the restart, Chad had Eric Wilkins, the 1991 Midget champion, right on his bumper. Chad had his car set up to run the bottom of the track, and he never made a mistake and held off Wilkins for his first Midget win of the year at Manzanita Speedway. With his win, Chad became the youngest driver to score a main event win in a major division at Manzanita. During trophy presentation, Chad was joined by his crew and family to celebrate his victory.
