Manzanita Speedway
April 29, 2005
Chad Boat went into Friday night’s AMSCA at Manzanita Speedway 6th in points, and he started Heat Race #2 in the 6th position. At the wave of the green flag, Chad moved to the top of the track and was running in the 2nd position at the end of Lap 1. On Lap 3, he passed Michael Colegrove going into turn 3, and went on to win his second heat race of the 2005 season with the AMSCA.
Chad started the 25-lap Main Event on the inside of Row 3. On the start, Michael Colegrove, who started on the pole, took the lead and by the end of Lap 1, Chad had moved into the 3rd position. By Lap 5, Chad was running 2nd and closing in on Colegrove as the leaders caught lapped traffic. Chad made some great moves and took the lead from Colegrove on Lap 14.
With the leaders in heavy lapped traffic, Colegrove closed in on Chad, but when the flagman gave the 5-lap to go signal, Chad put several lapped cars between himself and Colegrove and pulled away to win his first AMSCA Main Event. Since this was the first time the Mini Sprints had run a 25-lap Main Event at Manzanita Speedway, and the race was run without a yellow flag, Chad’s time of 6:30:07 was a new track record.
Chad thanked his crew for giving him an awesome car, and for the hard work they had done so that he could race that night. The crew found some problems with the engine in his car early Friday afternoon, and had to change engines so that Chad could run Friday night. This was Chad’s first win with the AMSCA, but it was his 17th victory in the 600cc Mini Sprint division.
