The USAC National Sprint Car Series took to the newly re-designed Lawrenceburg Speedway on Saturday night with 34 drivers showing up looking for victory. On a very fast race track for qualifying, Chad timed in 5th quick with a lap of 14.067 seconds, a little less than a tenth off of quick time qualifier, Josh Wise.

Chad’s qualifying effort would line him up on the inside of the fourth row of the first heat. Having to finish in the Top 4  is a big task on a the fast, tacky race track, and Chad eventually finished the 10 lap heat race in the 6th position, directly behind fast time qualifier, Wise.
With 3 of the top 5 qualifiers not transferring through the heat race, Chad would earn the 3rd starting spot for the B-Feature event. Running a smooth, consistent B-main, and needing to finish in the Top 6 to transfer into the night’s A-Feature event, Chad did just that, finishing in the 3rd position.

The A feature saw a very fast, rough, tacky race track for all the drivers. When the green flag dropped, Chad quickly settled into the 4th running position. One of the large holes in turn one grabbed the Billy Boat Motorsports Maxim on a lap 10 restart sending it on two wheels, but Chad brought it back down, dropping Chad back to the 6th position. Knowing that his car was better than a 6th place car, he continued to drive hard, and worked his way back up to the 4th position, passing USAC Triple Crown champion, Dave Darland, and Jesse Hockett. The end of the race saw a few yellow flags, resulting in the field being bunched back up, and providing the challenge of holding off both Darland and Hockett. Chad and Darland raced side by side the last five laps, and Chad would prove up to the challenge of holding both off, and ultimately crossing the finish line in 4th.
“The car was great tonight,” Chad would say after the race, “Dave Rudisell and all the guys here at Lawrenceburg Speedway did a great job on the track preparation tonight, and giving us something to race on.”

Chad and the Billy Boat Motorsports team will head to Bloomington Speedway on May 8th when the United States Auto Club resumes it sprint car season on the famous red clay.
